Onam Celebration 2009

Trivandrum International School wore a festive look on Friday 29th August 2009. The school entrance was decorated traditionally to welcome Onam in. Hanin  Hamsa of class XI as Mahabali and Siddharth Menon of class 8 as Vamanan added colour and gaiety to the occasion. By 9 am school was in the grip of festivity. First item for competition was the Athapookkalam.  It was a feast of colours, when flower's fragrance and festivity blended to give shape to magical floral patterns. The creativity and craftmanship in arranging pookalams was excellent. With an artistic touch the contestants turned the carefully pinched flowers in exotic hues into vibrant pookalams.Despite competition the spirit of co- operation and harmony was much palpable as the participants worked together in teams blending petals with petals and shades with in shades.

This was followed by fashion show for classes 6 to 12. Four houses with their 24 participants dressed in traditional attire gave a tough time for the judges.  Onappattu, Uriyadi and Tug of war and slow cycle race were other items for competition.

Cultural programmes staged by staff and students were highly professional. The school campus reverberated with tapping feet to the rhythmic fast moving Onam songs of the staff.

After the programme the TRINS family was treated to an onam sadya. Mahabali wished everyone a happy and prosperous New Year and bid farewell promising to be back next year. It was indeed a memorable day.
