Students of Trins Interaction with Padmasree Mohanlal The students of Trivandrum International school enjoyed the rare privilege of a tête-à-tête With Padmashree Mohanlal on the 17th of March at the Kinfra Park auditorium,Kazhakuttom . This was indeed the crowning glory in the series of interviews conducted by these students for their year-book. Greatly honoured to be granted an hour of his valuable time the students were deeply impressed by the simplicity and candor of the great personality they interviewed. THE JUNIOR SCHOOL ISLAND BONANZA The island project – its humble birth was during the month of December. It was our cross curricular project for the second semester and the change in the ambience of the classrooms, an innovative visual learning style combined with power point presentations, hands on art activities, visits and interactive sessions with visitors, all lend a real boost to its success. The learning achieved was devoid of strain to the students only because they enjoyed what they were doing. Subjects such as Maths, English, Humanities, Science, languages, Art, Music and Dance were correlated to the island study with ease. SCIENCE FAIR 2010 Science exhibition of Trivandrum International School was held on 21st January. Classes 3 to 9 participated. They came out with noble ideas and explained their exhibits. Soap making was one that captured a lot of attention. Other projects were: Hydraulic truck made from used syringes Eco friendly water filter(using plastic bottles, Charcoal, sand and cotton) Rain Water harvest ( Still model) Conservation of energy ( Solar panels) Food adulteration tests
Class 9 did a presentation on Solar Eclipse which occurred on 15th January 2010. They also exhibited photographs taken on that day Annual visit of Elon University faculty 21 students and 2 faculties with their travel exhibition visited school on 22nd January. They were given a warm welcome during the school assembly. Some of their projects exhibited were: 1. Robotics 2. USB Microscope 3. Centre of gravity using wooden rods 4. Pulse/ Pressure testing They donated 3 projects to our school as a token of appreciation.
SWIMMING GALA 2009-2010 Swimming Gala of the academic year 2009-2010 was held on Saturday 23rd January 2010. Mr. M O Kuriakose , Principal declared it open at 9 am. National winner in swimming, Gayathri Nair of class 11 ISC took the oath along with four House Captains. Students participated eagerly in various events like Breast Stroke, Back Stroke, Freestyle, Kickboard and Floating Ring. The day long events were witnessed by parents and they appreciated the enthusiasm expressed by the students. The prizes were given out by Mrs. George M Thomas, Mr. G Vijaya Raghavan and Mr. M O Kuriakose. The champions of the year was Prithvi House and Jalam the runners up. Christmas programme 2009 Mr. Paul Maliakal and Sr. Sangeetha organized and directed the Christmas programme. Christmas songs were rendered by the school choir to the tunes of the chiming bells of the season. Pagent. and the visit of Santa Claus aroused excitement . Farewell Art teacher Miss . Fay Donohoe and Miss. J.S. Lakshmi of the Physics department Were appreciated for their contribution to the school in their field. School bid them farewell and wished the very best.
ANNUAL SCHOOL PRODUCTION The four houses of Trivandrum International School came out with their best during the 2009-2010 annual production. It was a platform for them to bring out their innate talents. Agni House presented “The submerged Truth”. Against the backdrop of an exotic dragon dance they showed how honour triumphs over betrayal. Jalam House dramatized “Shahenshah Akbar”. It was an enthralling journey back to the golden era of Akbar the great. The Magnetic personality of “Martin Luther King” was presented by Vayu House.The speech “I have a Dream” captured the attention of the audience. The charismatic “Ann Frank” was put forward by Prithvi House. The story of the young girl and her diary stole the hearts. In style and presentation all the houses were at par.

At the All India ICSE/ISC Aquatic Championship held at Bangalore, Gayathri Nair of Class XI ISC added one more feather on the cap of Trivandrum International School. She bagged a silver medal for 100mts Breast stroke held at Bangalore. All India ICSE/ ISC Basket Ball Championship
At the All India ICSE/ISC Basketball Championship held at Bangalore, Kerala team bagged the winner’s trophy. Jostin Tom Arambankudy of Trivandrum International School was one of the players of this prestigious winning team. Food Fair - 13th and 16th October 2009 Every good act is charity. A man’s true wealth hereafter is the good that he does in this world to his fellows. The month of October is charted for social service. A number of activities were done to cater to the needs of charity work. One among them was the food fair. This year’s food fair for juniors was held on 13th and senior on 16th October 2009. Every single child and staff participated by bringing food items which pampered the taste buds of one and all. The amount collected as in previous years will be utilized for charitable purposes. At the All Kerala ICSE/ISC Inter- School Football Tournament held at DonBosco HSS Vaduthala Cochin- on 14-16 October 2009, Trivandrum International School was declared Runers up. They beat St.Joseph’s Pattanakad, Alappuzha in the semifinals (5-3 via tie breaker). Mohammed Sajan of Class XI was awarded as best forward.

All Kerala ICSE/ ISC Schools Basket ball Tournament 2009-2010 CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! Trivandrum International School Winners of All Kerala ICSE/ ISC Schools Basket ball Tournament 2009-2010 The tournament was organized by Infant Jesus School, Thangassery, Kollam. In the challenging tournament the girls’ team of Trivandrum International School bagged the trophy. They won the coveted place by beating Holy Angels School Trivandrum(Score- 23/7). Neethu Paul was adjudged as the best player and got selected to the nationals along with her team mates Yamini S Vivek, Sibi Vishnu, Jasmin Alex,Susan John Muthoot, Tania J Maria and Svaniya Arulanatham. The boys team was also not far behind.They reached the semi finals and team members Jithesh Kunjumon, Jostin Tom, and Indrajith B were selected for the nationals In the SBT Termopenpol All Kerala Under 12 Tennis Tournament held at Pangod Military Camp Trivandrum, Annie Reji Varghese and Lakshmi Menon of Trivandrum International School were declared runners up in the doubles. 6th All Kerala ICSE/ ISC Aquatic Meet was organized by Trivandrum International School on Saturday 26th September 2009. Hundreds of students from various schools of the state participated in the meet. The meet was declared open by school president Mr. George M Thomas after the colourful swim past of TRINS students. School Captain Akshay Ashok welcomed the guest and off started the pomp show. Prizes were given away by Mr & Mrs George M Thomas. The overall trophy was handed over to the Pallikoodam team by Mr. George M Thomas. The meet was declared closed by Principal Mr. M O Kuriakose. The world of books Is the most remarkable creation of man Nothing else that he builds ever lasts Monuments fall Nations perish Civilizations grow old and die out And after an era of darkness New races build others But in the world of books are volumes That has seen this happen again and again And yet live on Still young Still as fresh as the day they were written Still telling men’s hearts Of the hearts of men centuries dead 4th Annual book fair of Trins was held from 17th to 19th September 2009 Leading publishers: - Scholastic, Penguin, Oxford University Press and Cambridge University Press participated in the three day programme. Principal, Mr. M O Kuriakose inaugurated the fair at 9.30am and declared it open. He highlighted the importance of reading in his address. The display at the fair attracted one and all. Students were excited as they moved and browsed through their favourite books. Some of them literally perched near the bookshelves during lunch and short break. Recently released Dan Brown’s “The Lost Symbol” was sold like hot cakes. In the lucky draw organized by Scholastic Publishers on the 19th of September,Neethu Paul of Class XII, Cybil Ann Cherian of Class VIII and Nishanth David Jacob of KG II won prizes. The fair came to a close at 5 pm on 19th September 2009. Onam Celebration 2009
Trivandrum International School wore a festive look on Friday 29th August 2009. The school entrance was decorated traditionally to welcome Onam in. Hanin Hamsa of class XI as Mahabali and Siddharth Menon of class 8 as Vamanan added colour and gaiety to the occasion. By 9 am school was in the grip of festivity. First item for competition was the Athapookkalam. It was a feast of colours, when flower's fragrance and festivity blended to give shape to magical floral patterns. The creativity and craftmanship in arranging pookalams was excellent. With an artistic touch the contestants turned the carefully pinched flowers in exotic hues into vibrant pookalams.Despite competition the spirit of co- operation and harmony was much palpable as the participants worked together in teams blending petals with petals and shades with in shades. This was followed by fashion show for classes 6 to 12. Four houses with their 24 participants dressed in traditional attire gave a tough time for the judges. Onappattu, Uriyadi and Tug of war and slow cycle race were other items for competition. Cultural programmes staged by staff and students were highly professional. The school campus reverberated with tapping feet to the rhythmic fast moving Onam songs of the staff. After the programme the TRINS family was treated to an onam sadya. Mahabali wished everyone a happy and prosperous New Year and bid farewell promising to be back next year. It was indeed a memorable day. Exhibition on Herbs n Spice On 26/08/09 class 7 organised an exhibition based on their geography lesson"rain forest”. The students exhibited herbs and spices and explained medicinal property of each exhibit. Even fateful diseases like cancer can find a cure was a surprise to the classes who visited. Herbs were arranged with their botanical name and properties. The self explanatory display and the enthusiasm of the students showed the organizing ability of theirs. The herbs were collected from their backyards and the spices from kitchen cabinet. The exhibition threw ample light to the inquisitive minds and they called it “backyard pharmacy.” The banner at the entrance “Na Jagthve manoushadam” was captivating.It means “there is nothing in this world without a cure”. Well done class 7 Visit of Dr. Venugopal S Reddiar A talk on “How to be successful” was conducted for classes 9 to 12 on 21st Friday 2009. Dr. Venugopal Reddiar, Physician cum success consultant gave an inspirational and motivating talk on “Seven skills for seven star performances”. In an hour talk he imparted practical success building wisdom. He stressed on the importance of setting disciplined goals and doggedly pursuing it to attain the desired goals. “Invest in yourself. That’s the best investment”. Based on these lines of Warren Buffett he asked students to pursue their success journey by being responsible, so that they can improve the quality of life. The last 10 minutes of session was for interaction and the students came up with genuine constructive doubts. This was cleared then and there by Dr. Venugopal Reddiar. Mr. Reddiar was of the opinion that the earlier we start with practical lessons for success the better the result would be. Science and Literary Inter School Fest 2009 The second annual science and literary inter school fest was held on Friday 7th August 2009. The formal inauguration and the opening ceremony of the fest was done by Mr. P. Radhakrishnan, scientist, Indian Space Research Organisation. His address inspired and lifted the spirit of the students. He asked the students to judiciously spend their time and choose a path that no one has tread by quoting the lines of eminent poet Robert Frost. He said 2009 was an year of importance to scientist as it was the 40th year of moon landing, 150th year of Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution and 400th year of Galileo’s observations. The campus turned out to be a platform for 21 schools of Kerala state to test their caliber and skill in the various competitions held. The judjes were adept in the field of their interest and the judgment was done skillfully. Young scientist and numerically yours were high octane and nail biting events The much awaited time for the announcement of results was inching in and anxiety was writ on every participant’s face. The chief guest for the closing ceremony was Dr. V Adimoorthy, Associate Director of Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre and Dean of Research and Development of the Indian Institute of Space, Science and Technology. Excellence in doing ordinary things extra ordinarily well and the secret of joy in work is contained in one word – excellence that’s what Dr. Adimoorthi stressed on in the closing ceremony. The awards were given by Dr. Adimoorthi V, Mrs. George M Thomas, Patron of the school and Mr. M O Kuriakose , Principal to the prize winners. Special assembly 31/7/09 A special assembly was conducted to honour Mr. Stephen Wass and Mrs. Verna Wass on 31/7/09. Principal Mr. M O Kuriakose chaired the function. Nayanika Krishnan and Akshay Ashok captains of junior and senior school were the comperes. Mr. Stephen Wass, is the Head Master of St. Mary’s Church of England Primary School, Banbury, U K and Mrs. Verna Wass is a French teacher and special need coordinator of the same school. During their stay they taught class 5 students traditional dance of England and students performed it during the assembly. Mrs Verna Wass’s skilful presentation of “Morris” a traditional folk dance form of Bloxham village to the music on “aconcertina- an instrument of 120 years played by Mr.Wass, was the most exciting event of the assembly. The students joined the beat and tapped to the music. Mr. Stephen Wass expressed thanks for the hospitality extended by the school and presented a book, “The amateur archeologist” authored by him to the school library. Besides he donated books and CD too. Akshay Ashok, School Captain thanked both Mr.Stephen Wass and Mrs Verna Wass for their kind gesture.
COLOSSEUM 2009 25th July 2009 was the day that lifted the spirits of TRINS. The prestigious overall trophy of COLOSSEUM 2009 organised by St Thomas Central School was won by TRINS beating several city schools. In this annual cultural meet of St Thomas Central School, TRINS bagged three first places and one third.
In the personality competition ‘czar of the war’ Aiswarya Nair of class 12 emerged first beating all the participant schools. She knew how to win the crowd when she was in the centre stage. TRINS danced their way to the top in the ‘passoe’ competition. They took the audience into their stride and was an easy walk to the first place. It was a fusion dance- classical and folk. The presentation, synchronization, costume and choreography of the ten participants were excellent. Yet another event that paved way to the top for the TRINS was the ‘spoovie’ (portmanteau word for spoof+ movie). The seven member team twisted the tale, they received for enactment. Laced their dialogues with a good sense of humor and coordinated well in portraying the theme The combined effort of Akshay Unnikrishnan and Karun Nambiar of class X in the ‘pot pourri’, creativity at stake made them tongue tied for a while, but with their dash of wit and bit of brains won the 3rd place Besides the individual trophies and certificates, the jubilant winners reached school with the overall trophy.
Talents Day Celebration Trivandrum International Schools’ Talents Day 2009 was flagged off on Friday July 27. It was no doubt, a scintillating day for the many young talents to present their caliber. The day’s program was on with the general assembly. It was followed by Malayalam and English recitation and elocution competition. These competitions went on for about an hour. Then came the much awaited programes like mono act, dance, western and eastern music. Mono act competition was specially noted for its contemporary relevance because many of its participants chose the subjects of current issues like chicken guinea, pathetic road conditions etc. Amalu Vinod of class 7A presented a stupendous performance in eastern dance. ‘Just a Minute’ competition witnessed more number of participants and was one of the interesting and funny programs on the Talents Day. Last but not the least, with “Meet the Press” competition., this year’s talents day came to an end . In the Meet the Press competition; for a few minutes, the participants became the eminent personalities of the world like Michael Jackson, Barrack Obama, A P J Abdul Kalam ,Tintin, M S Dhoni etc. Some participants completely adapted themselves to the new role assigned to them and answered promptly for the juries’ questions. Finally, the most awaited time had reached. It was none other the declaration of the winner house. Jalam scored maximum points. The winner house went cloud nine. |
